JOIN US IN 2023 AS WE CELEBRATE OUR 150TH YEAR AS A PARISH!
We, the people of God in the parish of Sacred Heart, are a faith community believing in Jesus, proclaiming God's Kingdom and sharing the mystery of faith by worshipping the Father, enabling all members to grow in their relationship with each other through the Son, and witnessing our gifts through active service to others in the Spirit.
The ground for our Historic Church was consecrated in 1873. The building of the church, as it presently stands, began in 1873 and was completed in 1874. The church was dedicated on May 21, 1887 as a mission of St. Charles in Pikesville, Maryland. Many dedicated families worked and prayed for the independent parish church that was established in 1946, with Fr. Francis J. Egan as its first Pastor.
In an effort to provide the proper worship space for a growing community that now numbers over 3,000 families, our new church was dedicated on February 19, 1993. The original, historic church was renovated for its 125th anniversary in 1998, and it now serves as a place for daily Mass and personal devotion.
The parish school as we know it today was dedicated on November 4, 1956 under the direction of the Sisters of Charity in Greensburg, PA, who staffed the school until June 1984. In 1999, a campaign and building program was undertaken to enlarge the school facility. Sacred Heart School currently has classes from pre-school through 8th grade.
