We are thrilled that Pope Francis has proclaimed 2021 the
Year of St. Joseph, the patron of our Congregation and of fathers, workers, travelers, and immigrants. It is under St. Joseph’s title,
patron of immigrants, that we invite you to join us in assisting Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley Humanitarian Respite Center at
Sacred Heart Parish in McAllen, Texas in their ministry to migrants. The Respite Center is a place for the countless men, women, children, and infant refugees to rest and have a warm meal, shower, clean clothing, medicine, and other supplies before continuing on their journey. Many Sisters of St. Joseph, including Sister Mary Beth, have volunteered at this center and have seen firsthand the suffering of our migrant brothers and sisters as well as the utter joy and welcome they receive at Sacred Heart Parish in Texas.
The Respite Center is in need of food, toiletries, clothing, and other items. Their wish list includes:
Toiletries for men and women (deodorant, shampoo, ChapStick, combs, brushes)
Undergarments children (4T-11), men (S, M & L), women (S & M)
These donations can be mailed to:
Humanitarian Respite Center c/o Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley 700 N. Virgen de San Juan Blvd San Juan, TX 78589
In the spirit of St. Joseph and the Holy Family who were themselves refugees in Egypt, we invite you to consider this invitation to help the refugees that find welcome and respite at Sacred Heart Parish in McAllen, TX. We hope that you will feel a deep sense of solidarity with them — knowing that we at another Sacred Heart Parish across the county love and care for them.
Gratefully ~ Sisters Cecilia, Karen, and Mary Beth
