Parents have a duty to educate and form their children in the Catholic Faith. Sacred Heart Glyndon's Religious Education Program provides families with the opportunity for their children to engage in age-appropriate formation of their faith. This program does not eliminate the need for, and requirement of, parents to be the primary educators of their children, but it provides important content and witness from other members of the Church as to how to live out their faith in life.
Providing catechesis to children is required of parents; this can be done by enrolling kids in Catholic School, providing structured catechesis in the home, or enrolling in a Catholic parish religious education program. There are also opportunities for parents to learn and grow in better ways to engage their children in the faith at home.
Please email reled@shgparish.org for more information on parent faith formation classes.
The fee is $60 per child, with no discount. Scholarships are available for families in need. Please email reled@shgparish.org for more information on financial assistance.
We are so glad you are choosing to enroll your child in religious ed classes now! You won't need to select which level. Students are placed in age/grade appropriate levels and can engage in the content provided even if they have never attended before.
This is completely up to the discretion of each family.
Weekly Sunday classes provide the opportunity for students to engage with others their same age and receive weekly instruction from a trained volunteer catechist. Parents are still expected to bring their children to Mass and engage the content they learn in class, in the home.
Family Home Study will require parents to ensure the instruction of their children at home, parents are provided with a guide to lead their children in the age-appropriate content provided to them. If families participate in the Family Home Study Program, they are required to attend an in-person session (Parents AND children) on the first Sunday of each month from 10:00am-11:15am.
Yes, a requirement of the family home-study program is that parents and children attend in-person formation from 10:00 - 11:15 AM on the first Sunday of each month. (If a holiday falls near the first weekend, we will gather on the second Sunday of that month.)
Adults interested in being catechists should contact Paul Gallagher at pgallagher@shgparish.org. We are in need of adults who attend Mass each Sunday and have a willingness to share the faith with children after receiving catechetical training. Volunteers will also have to be child-protection trained and pass a background check with the Archdiocese.
The traditional age/year for children to receive First Communion is 2nd grade or age 7. If your child is older than this and has not received his/her First Communion, please indicate this on your religious education registration form and email reled@shgparish.org.
Please indicate this on your religious education registration form and email reled@shgparish.org for more information. Your child will take part in our Rite of Christian Initiation for Children Program to receive his/her sacraments.
